Other symptoms of pancreatitis may include nausea, vomiting, fever, rapid pulse, and tenderness or pain in the upper abdomen that may radiate to the back. High levels of amylase in the blood may also be caused by other conditions such as bowel perforation, penetrating peptic ulcer into the pancreas, duodenal obstruction, mumps, ectopic pregnancy, severe diabetic ketoacidosis, and salivary gland problems.
